TEXAS TOAST – Clear Sangria

Posted by TxHny on November 2, 2007

Texas Toast: Clear Sangria — Literally the best Sangria I’ve ever tasted.

We made this heavenly delight for our poker night and it was a smash hit. Mostly because everyone was smashed. Want to do a little toasting – but not up for a bar? We’ve got ya covered.

To make Heaven For Your Mouth you will need:
-2 Bottles dry white wine
-1 Cup Orange Liquor
-1/2 Cup White Sugar
-1 2-L bottle of Citrus Fresca
-2 Oranges
-2 Lemons
-2 Limes
-40 Green Grapes
-1 lb Strawberries
-Gin (I used Bombay) to taste
– Orange Slices or Strawberries for garnish

In a large pot or pitcher add the first three room temperature ingredients. While those are hanging out, dissolving all the sugar, thinly slice the oranges, lemons and limes. I cut the orange slices in half, and left the others in small circles. Add to pot of yummy booze, making sure to get all the fruit juice. Next, cut grapes in half and strawberries in quarters and add to yummy booze pot. Swirl it around and then get yourself a little bit to taste. Depending on how much of a lush you are, add 1 splash to 1 cup of Gin. [I’m a big proponent of adding anything in the liquor cabinet at this point – the masked wino]

Chill overnight (or at least 4 hrs).

To serve, either strain yummy booze into a pitcher (or if it has a strainer at the spout throw it all in. It looks pretty.) For each serving, fill a tumbler or large wine glass with ice. (These rations can be adjusted according to your lush factor in conjunction with the distance you are from final destination.) Add an orange slice or a strawberry to the cup. Fill the glass a little more than half with the Sangria mixture. Add chilled Citrus Fresca to the top. Tada!

I have a hard time believing that, surrounded by all of your glorious ingredients and contents of the liquor cabinet, that you really took the time to count out exactly 40 green grapes…

I guess if you have more than 40 you can always do this: http://www.pmichaud.com/grape/
(The Tap Dancing Giants Union in no way endorses the activity described, but wouldn’t mind seeing it carried out for entertainment value…)
